QUANTITATIVE LEARNING FOR EVERYONE

About

Housed in the Tiger Learning Commons of the Library, the Quantitative Reasoning and Skills (QRS) Center is part of Trinity’s growing network of academic support for students. We provide students with drop-in support for introductory-level courses with a quantitative component. In particular, we have course tutors for lower-division mathematics courses, as well as supplemental tutors to support students in chemistry, economics, and physics, among other quantitative disciplines.

Tutoring Support Areas

The QRS Center offers students personalized, one-on-one assistance with academic endeavors involving mathematics or statistics, including:

Peer tutoring in quantitatively-demanding coursework (e.g., mathematics, statistics, physics, economics, etc.)

Structured support in the ALEKS learning modules to help with course placement

Help preparing for academic endeavors involving mathematics or statistics (e.g., preparing for the GRE)

Help developing your skills in mathematics- or statistics-related software, such as R or LaTeX

Fall Tutoring Hours

Sunday through Thursday, 3-9 p.m.

We provide drop-in help with nearly any course with a quantitative component. You do not need to make an appointment to visit. Check out the QRS Center tutoring schedule to see when particular tutors are working.

Prepare for your Tutoring Session

Because learning is an active process, it is important that you wrestle with the problems or material prior to visiting with your tutor, as well as follow up after the session with self-study and practice. Once you have worked through problems and formulated questions, be sure to bring them to your visit with the tutor. Additionally, to benefit the most from this resource, we highly recommend staying in contact with your course instructor and visiting office hours regularly.

Math Placement

The Quantitative Reasoning and Skills Center works in tandem with the Mathematics Department to organize the mathematics placement process, and in particular, the ALEKS assessment for STEM-intending students. We offer structured support for students who are working in ALEKS and who would like help in understanding particular topics.

To learn more about the mathematics placement process, visit the math placement Canvas page. You will need your Trinity network credentials to log in.
